Cottage Information

History

Dating from the 1850s, the rows of cottages in Bond Street are an integral part of the history of Arundel and believed to have been built by the masons and artisans as their accommodation during the construction of the Cathedral.  Owned by the Norfolk family from the date they were built, they were used to house castle servants over the years, until they were sold just after the Second World War.

If you look up at the roof of number 22, you can see the date it was completed on the guttering - 1865.

Bond Street is thought to have been previously known as Pond Street, because of a pond that used to be situated at the King Street end of the road.  This pond has since disappeared but there are still remains of a well at the back of number 22, on the drying lawn.

The cottages have been sympathetically modernised to the highest standards with fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms, and full central heating. We have tried to provide those little things such as hair dryers and beach towels to make the cottages a comfortable home-from-home and we always welcome suggestions from guests as to how our facilities could be improved.

Fee

The cottages are located almost opposite one another on Bond Street and can be rented individually or together for larger groups.  Number 11 sleeps three in a double and a single room and Number 22 sleeps five in one double, one twin and one single room.

Linens, towels, gas and electricity are all included in the cost of your holiday.  We will automatically provide cleaning and a change of linens during any extended stay.

All prices quoted are for the hire of a cottage for a week.   You will be asked to restrict numbers in the cottage during your holiday to those declared on the booking enquiry form.

Smoking and pets

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate pets and would ask that our no smoking policy is respected throughout the properties.

Telephone

There are no land lines in the cottages, as we have found that most guests prefer to use their own mobile phones. However, should you not have a mobile phone we would be pleased to arrange temporary use of one for you, on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Parking

There is free on-street parking and additional space can usually be found close to the cottages.

Access to the cottages

The cottages are located at the top of the town, and there are steep hills throughout the town.  Whilst access to the cottages is straightforward from Bond Street, you may find that walking back to the cottages from the town centre is taxing if you are not as agile as you would like to be.
